thanks tractioncontrol. I can't bid on that auction, because the seller doesn't ship to canada. however, it gives me an idea of what I'll be paying, so thanks anyway.

I had the same problem. The Cruise can be kind of tricky. Here's what I did.

Shut down the car
Restart it
Get to a speed of 40, so you can set the cruise
Make sure the cruise button is on the off position
Set it on then press the A button
If it sets, dont mess with it. If you want to stop cruise, then hit the brake, but dont turn the cruise to the off position. then everytime you want to return to cruising, just hit the A button once, while the gas is pressed, then depress the gas and it should work

If it doesnt, then you probably need to change the unit like the rest of the guys said. Like I said it worked for me. I havent had any problems since.

thanks man, I'll try that before I go and buy a new switch.

and PKSJeter, I'll look into the ECS switch if I do indeed need a new one. thanks for the lead.

wood_e -- it isn't the clutch switch, because the cruise still disengages if I touch the clutch pedal.

try contact cleaner first. contact cleaner worked on mine for a few months then it just stopped working. i would replace the switch but you have to remove the steeringwheel and all that crap and its just not worth it to me.

oh jeez. I was kinda hoping it didn't involve removing the steering wheel, I'd rather not mess around with airbags...

I'll try the contact cleaner, but where do I squirt it? all the pics I've seen show the contacts to be in the base of the stalk, and I'd obviously have to remove it to access that area.

damn you audi and your electrical gremlins.

I think my cruise has now stopped working altogether.[:@]

I'm gonna pick up a can of contact cleaner sometime this weekend, but can anyone tell me how to clean this thing?
