is there a difference between buy the head cover gasget kit or Valve cover gasget kit from audi dealer or ECS tunning? This my be a dum question but i just want to make sure, head gasget and valve cover gasget are 2 different things? and if its like that can i change the head cover gasget being that I'm changeing the valve cover gasget? Also what does it mean when you guys say " torque the bolts down to 7ft/lbs" is there any special tools that i need?

7ft/lbs is a measurment of pressure thats put on the bolts, its really not very much to do it right you would need a torque wrench but i think you can get by just doing them snug, but be sure you done over do it cuz the bolts are probably weak and your going in to aliminum and it could strip.... and the two kits are most likely the same thing, at least it sounds like that

A valve cover gasket just keeps oil from coming out of the top of the engine and is simple to replace in a few minutes.. A head gasket goes between the cylinder head and the block and can take quite a while.....

He said valve cover and head cover gasket, which i think are the same thing, now a head gasket is completely different but i think hes talking about two of the same

ok this is where i stand.... My car is leaking oil on the peice that goes to the exaust (hope I'm explaining my self well) its creating a burning smell. so i decided that it my be the valve cover gasget....I started searching for post about spark plugs and ran into a post that mention oil inside the spark plugs...they said it could be the head gasget and etc.. so i just want to some info ...incase ihave to change the head gasget. I need to stop the oil leak.

I think your probably looking at a valve cover gasket being the prob, you say its leaking out of the motor on to the exhaust, usually a head gasket wont cause that, with a headgasket you will get water in your oil and oil in the cylinders, like inside the motor not the outside like you say
