I just bought an 02 3.0 liter and am curious if it it normal for these engines to have a lightrattle sound when before the oil pressure comes up. It lasts for 1 to 2 sec when the engine is first started. The oil change service on it was done by a GM dealer is before I got the car and I don't know what kind of oil or filter was put on it.Do these engines need a special oil filter with an anti drainback valve and what isyour recomendation for oil & viscosity.

All 3.0L engines sound like crap when you first start them up, it doesn't matter what kind of oil is in it either. On the 3.0L engine it has a hydraulic cam adjuster at the end of each cam shaft (4 cam gears instead of 2) and when they sit for a while the oil drains out of them. When you start it back up they chatter like hell until they build pressure back up, its nothing to worry about.
