Look at A4's, need advice from the experts
I've always been a fan of Audi's. Wonderful proportions, excellent handling, sumptuous interiors. I nearly bought an Audi 90 quattro with a manual instead of my current Focus SVT, but a prepurchase repair mishap (water pump bolt breaking off in block) soured me from that car. Alas, the last couple of months have been tough on my little Ford (two broken windows, tagged in the parking lot but a hit and runner, leaky valve cover gasket and aging summer tires) as wonderfully fun as the car is, it's time to move on, and move up.
I'm eyeballing several of Audi's offerings, all used, I can't justify spending a minimum of a 20% premium for the privilege of driving it off the lot. I like both the last generation A4 and A6, as well as the TT coupe. I'm *requiring* quattro and a manual, so the A6 is far back in the running, even though a beautiful car when in black with the tan interior and light wood. I'm still in my mid 20's and looking for sport so I'm looking more towards the A4 or the TT. The TT is sort of falling away since its not exactly good at transporting all manner of sports equipment up to and including a kayak on a roof rack. So that leaves the A4. I'm looking to you, the experts, to offer the pros and cons of the 1.8T versus the 2.8 as well as the years that may have some less than desirable qualities. There is a really sweet 99 A4 2.8 quattro with a manual in silver with the big chunky five spokes that I'm drooling over, but I'm holding back. Not only becuase it's still winter, but because I am not yet armed with this communities sage wisdom. Thanks in advance for all who might reply.

teh TT is definetly limited to space and you say you are late 20's so you might want to be thinking about the future for more room and all as for the A4 depends on if you are wanting to mod your car or not the 1.8T is a very moddable engine but it has its problems due to being a turbo charged car the 2.8 smooth power but unless you want to dump another 5grand into performance than you are limited to the power it has now
one thing to look for when you are buying look at the maintance history on A4's and the TT see if the timing belt has been done if it has over 60 miles the A4's are prong to control arms there are 4 on each side and tie rod ends wheel bearings
if you are looking at the 2.8 you also want to look to see if it has the cam adjusters done as this is a $3000 job with parts and labour
