Default Looking for brainiac's advice, I'm new to Audi's!

I just got a 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, 54,000 miles, and its in great shape. I'm looking to (slowly!) mod it, and I am probing the immense wealth of info contained herein to get suggestions. As far as I know, the car is stock, but I can hit the gear limit in 5th (138MPH~ish on the speedo, but the GPS says I'm doing 133MPH~ish) and I have heard that there is supposed to be a 130MPH speed limiter. I am fairly certain that this car hasn't been chipped (make that 100%), but again, I just got it last week. I haven't poked around with it much, mostly just driving. She's a hell of a lot faster than that 97 Subaru Legacy Outback I had, then again, that thing was close to dead.

I would like to get a chip for it, but I want to make sure I dont lose my peak torque at1900RPM. I know chipping it boost's the power, but what does it do to the power curves? I am thinking about the APR chip with the injectors they sell on their site.

I am also looking to get an exhaust,(I'm in Vermont, so no test pipe, she has to pass California styleemissions) and I would like to ditch the center muffler. Does anyone know about high-flow Cats and their effects on emissions?

Some other mods will be an intake (K&N, Carbonio? advice?)better DV (I would LOVE to have the PSSH sound, but after reading about the diverter valves here, I don't thow if that would be wise), and maybe later on some Brembo brakes.

I'm a big fan of inexpensive (read: not "cheapo ricer crap") mods, so any suggestions are welcome. Do please keep in mind that this is my daily driver, I live in Vermont, and as much as I would love to not have to, I have to drive in wet, cold, slush, through pot holes, overfrost heaves, and ondirt roads.

Another thought, I would like to get a spoiler, not a NASA wing (stupid Hondas...), but a small spoiler. The back end of my A4 is the only complaint about the car, and even though its not that bad, I feel it could be better. Not a high priority really, but if anyone knows of good spoilers, suggestions are certainly welcome.

And with that, its off to browse the forums some more. Thanks in advance!

you will pass with a high flow cat but as long as you have a k03 a hfc/tp wont do much for max hp but will improve your powerband

intake will only make your dv louder. a custom intake or good ebay one will work fine. and there are no downsides to putting in a DV, you could even go with a BOV.

pick up a can of VHT nightshades and black out anything you think will look good, paint your lowers, clear corner mod, debadge it, black out your grill or rims, etc... just go to the DIY section on this site and http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ to get more ideas

I was reading about the diverter valves here, and I seem to recall something about venting to atmosphere releasing air that has already beenmetered by the ECU (in a MAF system, possibly others) and that being bad. I have no idea what mine is, All I have done is drive it this week (900 miles to be exact). I saw some Forge DVs that are hybrids, and the atmosphere side of it can be plugged so it can run completely recirc.

I'll try the intake first, and I will try to find out what air system I have (some can vent to atmosphere no problem), and decide on the DV/BOV afterwards.

Thanks a ton though! I think there is a place over in Bomiseen (about 10 miles from me) that does the APR chips, and I would like to stay somewhat stealth from the stealership for the time being. Any recommendations on injectors? Those I can install myself, but I dont know what to get. Again, THANKS!!

BOV's vent to atmosphere, DV recirculate the air. our a4's come with DV's stock, and most people use to think BOV's were bad but as long as the BOV is closed at idle you will be fine. you wont run rich because the MAP sensor will recalculate for air after the DV/BOV, so its fine to vent to atmospere. all 00+ a4's have MAP sensors.

and if your asking about injectors, that means your going to be going with the 1+ chip, which is good, and they use the TT225 injectors, which are 386cc. if your going with just the stage 1 chip you dont need injectors

Wow, thanks! I think I'll go with the hybrid DV/BOV, and just drive easy for a few days (or should I drive the way I normally do, fast and hard, to let it get used to that style?) I know enough to be dangerous I have found, I tend to know a lot less than I think I do anyways haha.

As far as the Stage 1+ chip, thats the one I was looking at, my thought being I might as well upgrade them all now. Is it solely the injectors that make it Stage 1+, or is it a different chip than theStage 1 that doesn't come with injectors? I guess what I am asking is, if I buy a Stage 1 now, and add injectors later, is that the same as buying the 1+ set now from APR.

The way I am reading what you said is that the Stage 1 and Stage 1+ are two differentchips (or, atleast have slight differences to account for the bigger injectors)

yeah two different chips. the 1+ chip is the equivelent to having a k04 for us b5 guys. its the one you want

and it doesn't matter how you drive the first couple days.
