Default A maintenance question

I have a '00 A4 1.8T and I'm coming up on the 90k service. The dealership tells me that'll run $1600-1700 with a timing belt replacement and I'm wondering if the time has come for me to part ways with my dealership (Jim Ellis Audi, Atlanta). I want to keep my car maintained according to the schedule, but 1600 seems a bit high. Is it worth it to seek out an independent import mechanic and just tell them what I need (and come to think of it, what DO I need at 90k?)? Or should I hand over my credit card to the dealer?

Thanks
Bill

YES...

That is way too high of a price. Go find a good euro mechanic, who will probably do a better job anyway. That should only cost no more than $600.

$600 is a great price, if you can find it, and assuming it includes the water pump.

Timing belt costs about 4 hours labor and $350 for parts from an independent shop.
