I think Im having the same problem, but it seems to be coming from the front passanger side. Also, if its warmer out, I dont notice the squeal at all. I just turn up my radio and hope it goes away.

 

Hell ya..that's exactly what I do!!! And when it heats up..it does go away..

 

the radio is a great way to hide broken parts, u also might want to try the s4 forums and see if they can help u out

 

The buzz saw noise is definitely a wheel bearing.. that sucks man. I know from experience. My wheel bearing is gone is the rear passengers side. I bought the replacement from the dealer ($50) but it's gonna be one hell of a job to replace it. Mine's getting to a point that now and then the car sounds like it farted! Damn audis! but you gotta love em....

 

I'm having the same problem, A squeeling noise coming from the front of the car, it goes away after the car is warm. From what I read I believe is the Serpentine belt. I check the belt and it looks really shinny (glazed). Has anyone changed their belt, 98 A4 1.8t, that can help tell the basic steps to follow, because I have no idea, but I like to do it myself. i got the same noise on my '01 only when im going 3mph or under.... i think its my wheel bearing just for all you with the same noise.

 

I jsut replaced my front Wheel bearing yesterday, was starting to shred i had little metal flaks o my axle. The bearing was starting to slide back and forth, its 80 bucks at ECS tuning and cost me 80 to put in, better then the 400 a mechanic wanted.
