you dont need the down pipe. you honestly dont even really need the exhuast..(though it is NICE) the only majorly restrictive part in the exhuast system is the cat. A test pipe or high flow cat will give more gains than a cat back exhauast alone will... But thats not to say a cat back system like milltek doesnt give ANY gains.. Im just saying... dont worry about anything else unless its replacing your restrictive cat with a TP or HFC. Congrats on the purchase though, I and others LOVE our milltek exhausts.. Beware though its quiet compared to any other aftermarket exhaust.

You can get a DP from techtonics tuning. A B5 passat is the same as our A4 so it works out great. I have a TT DP and its 2.5". Ialso have a 3" testpipe. What i did is removed my mid muffler and replaced it with mandrel bent straight piping and it really sounds awsome. It is on the loud side but it doesn't bother me.

Yeh, go testpipe, and if its still not loud enough for ya, you can always drop the resonator.

You can get a nice 3" downpipe from ecode tuning for under $200.
