I'm planning on getting an exhaust system as my first mod and from my searches it looks like the Milltek 3inch is one of the best. do you agree? and does anyone have it and hows it sound and perform? Im looking for the most power gains but dont want a loud car, is their anything better then this? thanks.

 

It sounds to me by your description that Milltek is exactly what you are looking for. It isn't too loud or ricy, but it adds some power. Exhaust obviously isn't going to give you the largest power gain of all the possible mods, but Milltek makes a great system with a decent rumble sound. if you are looking for real power from exhaust, look at labree downpipes. They make a split system, aka divorced wastegate, that doesn't allow the turbo exhaust and wastegate exhaust to mix until further down the system. They claim a 20 hp gain with just their downpipes, and if you keep the cats on there it isn't overly-loud. Just a thought.

 

Your Milltek chice is probably best. If you want the quietest, then I'd consider a Neuspeed exhaust, too.

 

Does anyone know if the exhaust is CARB legal? Also, I am curious if anyone has noticed MPG change.

Any of the reputable aftermarket exhausts are legal. There may be a slight change (for the better) in mpg, but hardly the reason for opting for the exhaust.

 

i was lookin at a catback exhaust for my car, but i think catback is loud...right. PLus for my 04 S4 they are asking 2,500 for the full exhaust system....BS right. any thoughts...

 

I am sure that they are 49 state legal. But I live in California, so I need to know if it is California legal, we have our own laws here. Plus does the milltech keep the exhaust from being too loud, such as the A.P.R. system? Are there any straight pipe setups to counter 2 of the 4 cats?

Oh and I just got my s4 today and i must say WOW what a beautiful, powerful, awsome, fast, and now that I think of it that list can go on and on forever, but yeah this car really kicks ***.

 

I have been looking for an exhaust system as well, I like the loud, not to ricy, killer at high revs, F1 sound.
Is milltek what i am looking for, or APR?

 

Either will give a unique sound - the APR may be a bit louder.
