I got a 1998 A4 1.8T chipped with giac.

I bought it used and it had a ricer muffler i thought just for the stupid loud tone, so i thought i wait until it rusts out and change it to something quiet.

Checked it out at a few muffler places and its actually 3 inch piping all the way, with no resonator. So it is a loud drone. I was wondering if there is any muffler i can use to keep the performance, but shut it up, wasn't planning on buying a resonator so if you guys know any good suggestions please let me know.

Also two places i went to, in my area say you can't quiet it down with resonator but my best bet would be a Magnaflow, 14218 i think was the model. Its the oval one for a little quiet sound but its straight through design which kind of worrries me.

I have heard Milltek is a pretty quiet exhaust when compared to others.

 

I have Magna-Flow and it's descently loud, not horrible but on the noisier side. Magna-Flow does have 2 types of resonators though and mine is the louder one though...

So it might work.

 

You can put a potatoe in it to quiet it down, or put a muffler on it that real quiet doesnt matter by who and make it fit they can butt the ends of the muffler/pipe to get it to fit.

If you dont like the loud sound then you should put a resonator on it. You should'nt see any change in performance, but it will shut it up.

 

i know this is a ricer brand but i have heard these in person and GReddy's new exhaust is pretty quiet

 

a muffler will only do so much without a resontor. I'd either get a new full exhaust or rip out that 3" exhaust get a universal borla or magnaflow muffler and have someone mandrel bend you some 2.5" piping. 3" is needed for a BT for a atock turbo 2.5" will be better and going custom will save you some money.
