Default My dilemma

Ok so its coming up where its that time to finally purchase my first car. So me and my mom were talking (im paying for the car but i needed advice) My mom said if anything ever goes wrong with the a4 thats its gonna be very expensive for me to pay becauase since im still in school(hs) and i only have a part time job at the moment. I told her that it will require mantainence and at around 60k miles thats gonna be a big change because im gonna change the timing belt, ect ect. So she really isnt supporting me on getting my used a4. my question to you guys is can i really afford this car right now?? i mean its gonna be about $15k with a 3 year warranty. also i have my own mechanic(s) to take care of whatever the warranty isn't going to cover. I am ready to take care of my car because i have my moms ford right now and i take more care of it than she does and its not even my car!

i probally make around $800/month. - for clothes and whenn i go out, but most of that money goes into the bank. AND ontop of that im paying back just about $200/mo on the audi (im taking a loan from my mom) and shes helping me somewhat...birthday and xmas gift you can say. But thats basically it. I LOVE AUDI i cant stress that enough so its what i want and what i would hope i can afford. please give me some feedback on what you guys think. theres no rush becasue i still am looking for the right audi and i have driving experience since i use my moms truck.

I would say go for it, Im still young, but i work at a euro shop so tools, labour, and help is at my disposal(sp), and i do most it myself. You just have to take care of it.

First of all since your in school and make around 800$ i adviise ya to get a 98-99 A4 for like 5-9k and use the rest of the money for mods if u wish.

dont buy from dealer if ur in school. its way too expensive and they really do not do **** for you. I made that mistake and bought a 01.5 A4 for 18k now im 4 years in debt!! 300$ a month!!

If u buy from private owner make sure the car is in GOOD condition! have it checked out by an independent audi mechanic! dont buy soething that you havent researched beccause it may turn out to cost you ALOT of money!

dont ENSLAVE yourself with a car from a dealer! Audi's are Audi's, no matter the year. I wish i had gotten an 98-99 A4 instead. I couldve spent the rest of the money on mods.

Just my 0.02..

But if u decide to get it then go ahead! more power to yA![8D]

My suggestion is that this is a good time to learn about delayed gratification. I didn't get my first NEW car until I was 34, and I didn't get my first expensive german car until I was 40.

Buy something inexpensive and reliable for your first car and save the rest for later. As much as you would like driving an Audi, I wouldn't suggest it for someone in HS as their first car. I know a Honda isn't as cool or as much fun as a sharper car, but don't become a slave to your car.

HOW TRUE! Pick up a cheaper car and you not only get out from under a hefty payment each month, but insurance is cheaper too. Think about it [sm=teetertooter.gif]

The toyotas and Lexus are great cars. My last car was a Toyota and lasted 320,000 miles (Looked like a beater before it blew a chead gasket though).

Don't become a slave to your car. If you spend all your $$$ on a car and upkeep, you will have no funds left for other things, and you won't be able to enjoy it because you are working extra hours for the money.

yeah that is very true man, i will be working just to support my car. my mom offered to pay for it, but that just isnt right you know? so thank you. it will probally be a toyota or a lexus, if i get the avalon i want (navi system+tan leather) then i will take it, slam some 18's on it, put an OEM spoiler on it, Tint the windows, get some coilovers and maybe even add a system. If not then whichever lexus pops up first im gonna take it...its a lexus for cryin out =). but in all seriousness thanks david, ill keep you updated on my final decision

oh i forgot to add this to my previous list

Acura - TL, or TSX (he has a 90' legend but i dont really like those all that much, they are still mean though)

If you're worried about maintenance costs, you better stay out of Lexus. That's one heck of an expensive brand to maintain. Granted they don't break much, but... you still have to do timing belt & other maintenance... and if you lose your key... it may costs thousands to replace it.
