Default NC girl needs some repair advice

At 37099 miles, my 2000 Audi A4 had the Secondary Air Pump and Secondary Air Outlet line replaced. At that time it was still under warranty.
Twenty-four months and 1000 miles later, it will not pass inspection. The code given is P0411. This code appears to be caused by the Secondary Air Injection System.

Symptoms: A sharp squealing sound occurs after start-ups but stops after a few seconds. This is the exact sound it made before it was replaced at 37099 miles.

After only 24 months, shouldn't my secondary air system replacement still be functioning properly? Is there an emissions warranty that could help me? And, should the dealership's repairs last longer than 24 months? The same exact squealing sound at startup really makes me think my problem is the exact same as it was when the dealer replaced the pump and line at 37099 miles.

I hope someone can give me some suggestions or advice. The Secondary Air System is no longer covered by warranty, but somehow I feel like I am getting a raw deal.

My current mileage is 47044. When I first saw my check engine light, and before I failed inspection, I wondered if I had a mass airflow sensor problem. That condition is still under warranty, so I scheduled my 50k service with the dealer. If the dealer can't do anything for me (as far as emissions warranty or warranty on their previous work) I'll feel cheated. What do you think?

Thanks for helping.

It can't hurt to ask the dealer to handle it under warranty.

CrazyHawk, thanks for your reply. I am gonna do my best. I do hate going to the dealership though. I hate it as much as going to the dentist. Check out my recent post concerning emissions waranty. I hope the info I found is real!

Sorry, on the 2000 the 80K, 8 years only applies to OBD, catalytic converter and ECU. Many places have a warranty on replacement parts, but it is usually limited to 1 year. Not sure why your pump is failing. I have the same car with 160K miles and no issues.

To pass the emissions test, I would just have your ecu cleared of the fault code the 2ndary air pump is triggering and then immediately get your test done. Try not to drive far inbetween getting the code cleared and the test. Of course that wont take care of the problem or keep the code from coming back, but at least youll pass the test.
Although, I have heard that the car must go through several drive cycles after clearing codes to get the readings to show up for an OBD style emissions test. Not sure about that, but it would be worth a shot to do what i said.

look for hose leaks the most common fault especially the one going under the intake manifold which is hard to get at and suffers heat problems which is why it cracks, some one posted pictures once but I cant find them

You have described the sound of a failing 2ndary air inj. pump and you have a code fro it so i wouldnt look anywhere other than around the air pump wich is no where close to the intake manifold.... Well, its that way on the 1.8t, what engine do you have???

not necessary the code P0411 gives a little more information and the squeal could be air drawn into a fractured pipe or a collapsing pipe like gasping for air

Sharp squeeling on start up that goes away after the engine has run for a couple minutes w/that code is the 2ndary air pump gone bad for sure. There is no question about it.

well the code does say the air pump first in line for possibles but I prefer to give options rather than someone just changing a part, the check lists always give three options to check ( well my data does lol ) not counting experience
