Here in northern california, 6k for a '96 2.8 quattro ~100k mi. is about what they sell for. The 1.8t is getting harder to come by but, theres no question about it, you gotta hold out for one.

I saw today this guy is selling a 96 2.8Q for $2000 with 140K and a very decent amount of mods done to it...so I would say that 6500 is a bit high for that year and that mileage

i've seen 12Vs in norcal sell for 8k with over 100k miles on them, it just depends on what's on the market at the time...

yep, if you're on the west coast it's not that bad of a deal. I'm on the EC and got mine for ~4500.

I'd say try to find a 30V if you ever want to modify it.
