Need help with a few things (Fueling, Peeling, Rattling, Folding), any comments are appreciated
My first post here, hi everyone.
I just bought an 02 A4 and I have a few very minor problems that I wanted to see if anyone can help me out with because the dealer is asking for an arm and a leg to fix them.
Key is broken and dealer is asking $300 for a new one, is there an alternative source?
The paint on some of buttons are peeling off, such as the A/C + ,- / Light switch / Window switch / Radio buttons... I wanted to know if there is a better place to shop for replacement parts other than the dealer for such things and what others have done to fix the peeling issue for buttons that can be bought and the buttons that can't be purchased at the dealer such as the A/C buttons. Can the buttons be taken off by first removing the A/C module and then painting them? Also with what paint and is there a a DIY guide on how to remove parts from an 02 A4 to replace them?
One of the folding mirrors aren't folding in. (If anyone has experienced this and can help me, it's fine, if not, it is not a big issue)
When I'm fueling up, I have to hold the gas pump trigger midway or else I can't fuel up (it acts like my fuel tank is empty, even though it is empty and clicks)
Rattling sunroof when I'm closing and opening it.
Any comments are appreciated, thank you.

sorry, but what do you mean by key is broken?...are you talking about the remote?...is it no transmitting or sis your key break off the remote?...
my best answer would be to "pop" open your key fob and figure out which type it is, there is a # that should be something like 4DO.837.231D (mine)
type it in to eBay search...I just typed mine in without the periods and found a key for my car that is curently at 15$ w a day remaining...you should buy any key w ur # on it...they are super easy to program...as far as your KEY (the metal part) goes there is a small pin that holds it onto the fob, "pop" the pin out and put the old key on the new fob...you should be able to buy a key fob for $100 or possibly wayy less...
the paint that is prrling on the buttons is common, most people live with the peel, I would say you could replace the light and window switches on eBay fairly inexpensively and Id go to a wrecking yard for your your a/c and radio....I only had one switch that was peeling(sunroof), so I took all the paint off of it (it was gray) and I hit it with a couple coats of black and it looks a whole lot better...
I really wouldn't worry about your sideview mirror, as long as it still functions leave it alone....
I have heard of a few different mentions about fueling problems...there is a blue search button at the top of the screen, if you search you should find a few threads about it...
is it the sunroof or she sun shade underneath it?.... so the noise is only heard while opening and closing?...I'd simply be happy that it's silent when the
car is in motion....
hopefully something in there helps!gl!

For the sunroof, make sure you have greased the sliders with white lithium lubricant.
For the fueling problem, try another pump. If it still happens using another pump, go to autozone and get the codes pulled. There may be problems with the EVAP system or EVAP check valve.

Thank you both for replying so quickly, I appreciate it a lot.

The key broke off the remote, have no idea how that happened.

What paint did you use and did you take off the button first? How did you remove the button?

Ya, I don't really care about this, just wanted to know if there is a quick fix.

I will buy the lubricant tomorrow, thanks for the help, any shops you recommend that have it?

Ya, it does it with every pump, I'm going to take it in to see what the errors are.

An update, maybe it will help someone.
The bottom portion of the key was replaced at the dealer for 120 (The key and the programming)
1. I went over the AC buttons with Le Plume black marker, and I have to say, it doesn't look bad at all.
2. I scraped the paint off of the armrest with a credit card and a flat head screw driver, and again it looks much better than before, with only a few minor scratches from the flat head.
3. I removed the light switch, took out the black ring that surrounds the ****, sanded it and used plastidip spray paint and it looks brand new, without the signs of course.
4. I would have sanded the driver side window buttons, but I didn't have any more energy for car improvement and more importantly, I didn't know how to take everything apart.
I left the side view mirror alone because I never would use it, but I'm sure it is the motor.
The lubricant didn't help with the sunroof problem, but one of the audiworld articles suggests bending the contacts so it functions normally again, I will do this after I get a Torx 9 screw driver.
My mechanic fixed this, how he did it was a bit sketchy to me, but I think he stuck a pipe in there to unblock anything that could have been causing this problem, whatever he stuck in there fixed the problem.
