Need help, local mechanic is useless.
I thought it could be the other way around, ie the misfire was causing the other code, but thats why I like this forum, you learn something new everyday.
Like you said, cant hurt to try switching the coil packs, if no air leak is evident.

some great info guys thanks.
Im gonna get the mechanic to check for a vaccum leak as its sounds like it could be whats causing the missfiring and the high revs when idle.
I'll let you know how i get on.

right! The mechanic says there are about 3 pipes that are almost perished. Are these to do with the vaccum leak you guys mentioned?
Could any of you point me in the direction of a cheap audi parts dealer as I dont want to get ripped off getting it done at the Audi dealers.

If its just vaccum lines, its cheap to buy, even at the dealer. Did your mechanic actually show you the "pipes" that are about to "perish"?? We would have to know exactly what pipes or lines are going bad to verify anything or help you with prices and labor.
OK he says that the "Crank case breather" needs replacing. He showed me it and its practically got a big hole in it.
He said the rest of the pipes have just began to soften. Do they not just do that when hot anyway?
Can anyone help on where to pick one of these up? Should I just pop down to audi dealers?
