Need help with my diagnosing my alarm issue
2003 Audi A4 1.8T
Problem: Alarm activates when I arm the system by using the key fob and or the key in the lock mechanism. Initially, I thought the trunk was the issue because as the alarm was ringing and I opened the trunk the alarm would cut off. so I disconnected the sensor in the trunk but the alarm continued to sound. One more thing....it doesn't go off each time, it's sporadic in nature, I would say the alarm will ring in error 7 out of 10 times.
Attempts to diagnose:
1) I took it Audi dealer: their diagnosis revealed the siren is the problem. After talking with them they said the car has two fault codes.....one for the right rear passenger door and the other the siren. They claim that this is fairly common issue with the particular siren and Audi realeased a updated siren to reduce these isses. The said replace the siren because its the more likely culprit and worry about the door later. Then they proceeded to tell me that 715$ is the price for a new siren installed by them.
2) the price 715$ proposal by Audi made me go to an after market Viper Alarm dealer. The guy claims to have worked on Audi's in the past but admitted he's no expert on Audi. After a 5 min exam he disagreed with Audi's diagnosis because it seems that the alarm beeps after arming as if something was open. He believes there is something else wrong with the alarm and therefore wouldn't recommend an after market alarm.
Because of my conversation with him I called the Audi tech and he said for me to unplug the siren. If the problem stops then the Siren is the issue....if the lights activate then the door is the issue.
I would like someone to tell me how to take the right panel out of the trunk so I can get to siren. pictures or a link would be nice.......it seems to be seated tight so before I started pulling I wanted to get some input.
Also I would like to know if anyone knows the part number for the siren....I would rather buy a used one so I don't have to remove the bracket but worse case I will buy the new model siren and have to modify some things....assuming the siren is the issue.
Thanks
