Default need some help with vag connection

here is the scoop. i just bought a dell laptop 600M so i can use vag-com and lemmiwinks.

i have a generic interface cable that works with my home pc and version 311.2 but i get a interface not found
error message when trying to run setup test on version 311.2 on my laptop.

i have read some info stating that i need to shut off hotsync to release the com 1 serial port? i have no ieda what that means.

any computer guys here that can help me out would be great.

The only problem I had at first, with my laptop, was that the computer couldnt coummunicate with the com port. I have a serial cable from the vag to a usb adapter that goes into my computer. I had to go into control panel/system/hardware/device manager, and go into the properties to make the "unkown device" on com 2, (or whatever com #'s 1-4 is available.) Restart the software and try it. That may help you out, good luck.

Sorry that didnt make much sense. Do this:
go into control panel
click "system"
click "hardware"
click "device manager"
click the little plus sign for "Ports"
click the one that has a yellow question mark
click the "port settings" tab
Select a port number between 1 and 4, preferably 1 or 2. Dont mess with any of the other settings. Restart your software and it should recognize it.
