shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttttttt just get the dammmmm audiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
I just traded a Civic while not the Si I have heard some bad storys about it. I was in the same debate but say the A4 and snatched it up without a secound thought. The Civic is a very trustable car with simple to mantain build but its just not as fun as AWD. I would go with the Audi then again I'm bias I've wanted one for 5 years and this just fell into my lap. I wouldnt of taken it but I was having problems with my 2006 LX that made me question Honda's quality on the 8th Gen models. Horrid Resale Value btw if you are changing to another upper scale Honda. They offered me 12k for it with 13,000 on it. Sold it for 14k at a VW dealership that didnt know jack about them hehe.
About 2 years ago my wife needed a new car, and she was looking at a '98 A4 with 125,000 miles on it. She went a drove it with her Dad, and the next day we both went back because she wanted to buy it. I told her it was a stupid move, and then I drove it. I was sold on the spot. It now has 165,000 miles on it, and we've put a good chunk of money into fixing some of the more common things. I should not be so excited over a 9 year old car with a butt load of miles, but I make excuses for me to drive it. I previously owned a 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT (which rides like it's on rails), and the A4's handling was as close to it as I have seen. GET THE A4!!
I come from owning 2 previous japanese cars, albeit both Nissian which is a step above Honda so perhaps its not a fair comparison ;-)
The reliability issue is vastly overstated. If you are a dumb-*** and don't know that oil needs regular changing or don't notice that your engine is making a rediculous noise for two weeks, then the honda is for you. But if you are reasonably intelligent when it comes to cars, then they are both the same. If you take care of your audi, change its oil, and do routine maintence, then it will be exactly as reliable as the honda. If you screw up and don't do maintence or something unlikely happens, the parts and labor will both be more expensive for an audi, but that cost is minimal over a period of several years when compared to a $20,000 investment.
Also, I think one of the most important factors in a car is safety, which no one has mentioned. Japanese cars have gotten safer over the years, but they still are essentially reinforced tin cans. The audi will be much safer should you ever get in an accident.
Lastly, the Audi will hold its value much longer, if or when you decide to sell it and get a newer car. In fact, thats the reason I've always loved nissans is that they don't hold their value, and I am poor and always get used cars by at least 6+ years old, and so I can get a used nissan for dirt cheap and get a lot of car for the money. If it was a 1994 Honda versus a 1994 Audi, I'd say get the Honda. But with both being so new and expensive, the Audi makes more sense.

My wife and I have owned 4 Hondas including a 2006 Civic EX 2 door (her car). I must say all of them have been very reliable and Honda America really looks after their customers. They replaced my radio that went out in my accord for no cost to me when my car was 10,000 over my warranty (was not a recall). I have had nothing but problems dealing with the guys at the Audi dealership. Its like pulling teeth trying to get things fixed. But thats just my experience. I do enjoy my Audi more than any of the Hondas that I have owned. You can instantly tell the quality difference between the both. If I were you get the Audi especially the one you are looking at.
The Civic has a 5 star crash test rating all around except the side impact front passenger which has a 4 star.
The A4 has a 4 star crash test rating all around except the side impact front passenger which has a 5 star.

Man, they're the same price, so I think it's obvious you need to go with the Audi. Honda's are great cars, they'll last forever and are cheap to mantain...but if your spending that much, then go all out and get the audi.
Just pretend they're both free (since they're the same price). Would you rather take the Honda and pay a little less in maintanince and fuel, or have an Audi that will be more costly but will actually be fun to drive, and a lot sexier.
In 5 years the Honda will be like everything else on the road, just an average car that gets you from A-B, but the audi will still be classy and stand out as a "nice" car.
