I would never settle for the loss of dynamic range that results from an FM transmitter or one of those cheap cassette adapters.. fortunately, we A4 owners have a very easy solution

a company makes an adapter that plugs into the cd changer DIN input in the trunk, which converts it into an RCA input.. you can buy it here...

all you have to do then, is get an adapter to go from the output on the iPod into a standard RCA cable.. run the cable from the front of the car into the trunk.. (that took me about 15 minutes and required no tools at all)

you just select the CD Changer control on the stereo, and select songs on your iPod

there is one minor drawback.. the volume control on the iPod has to be all the way up (altho I back the volume off a touch just to prevent distortion).. and the volume on the stereo generally has to also be turned way up.. but the sound quality is about as good as you'll get

ORIGINAL: AudiGirlie

i have to tell you, i have lost zero sound quality. i thought i would too, but it sounds sweet. check these links out of a guy that wired everything to his car...looks sick. as for hardwiring it, obviously the best way to go, but for alternatives, i love the look and sound of this FM transmit. anyway, check out the links

OMG! I'm having him build me some cup holders for my A4!!! He could wire pressure sensitive plates on the bottom of the holders into the HUD computer and it can gimme a warning when my drink is low!

j/k Damn, that is what you call motivation!

Ok, Ok..
But if I set up an adapter out of the CD player, I won't be able to use the cd player.. Right?
I know the argument is that why do you need a cd player if you have an ipod, but sometimes I forget my ipod... so during those times I like to turn on the CD player... can I have my cake and eat it too? is there a way to have a CD player and have an ipod connection? OH and have great sound

as far as I know, it's one or the other.. the adapter will prevent you from using a cd changer in your car.. but you can just do what I do.. get a cd flip-case and fill it with your favorites, and tuck that in the map slot in the door.. that way if you forget your iPod, you'll have a selection of cds to listen to until you put the iPod back in the car.. you'll just have to listen to one cd at a time.. so burn a few compilation discs and keep those handy
