Default New Here! Pre purchase question 2.8

All, I'm looking at a 1998 A4 2.8 Quattro manual with 135K on it. The car is a 1 owner car and dealer maintained. Body is perfect save a few very small sctatches. Carfax came back clean with all the dealer visits logged. My only concern is the mileage. The engine feels strong but there is a small oil leak near the drivers side engine head. The dealer is replacing the clutch and will fix the leak as well but can this be a warning sign of anything else going on?

Is there anything else I should look at? I'm not interested in doing any engine mods, I just need reliable transportation to work.

Thanks in advance!

James

service history like has the timing belt/tensioner/water pump been checked/changed, forget mods its a motorway car and is well designed for that so the millage is nothing on that engine

Hey all,
as you can see i am new to this forum also. Must say this is the most informative place to read about Audis . I have spent the last couple of days reading on, and finally decided to go with the A4 2.8qt over the 1.8. Reason being i am not going to mod and also i dont know much about that business anyways lol.
I found a really good deal on a 99 2.8qt and had one question. The owner has not mentained the car to its fullest. He has used regular gas instead of the recomended 91 octane and along side that he interchanged his oil with regular and synthetic. He is the second owner and has had the car for 3 years. How much of his carelessness has affected the audi is my question? Also, the owner has not gotton the timing belt change which is recomended at 60-70K. Miles now are 79K. Any suggestions/feedback is welcomed, and thank you for your time

Regards

fuel type isn't that important as is the oil but the change interval is, it seems the guy was a drive by wire and no consideration for the car so I would tread carefully and check everything

Because of the cover on the engine, i couldnt look at alot of stuff. But, i didnt see any major problems like oil leak or any wierd engine noises. We test drove it and like always, the ride was so seductive hehehe.... Well thanks for your help avant. Going to read around forum and see if i need to look at anything in particular ...

Regards

I completly agree, its just that i am worried as the owner didnt maintain the car nicely. Also it had a minor accident, but that has been repaired and there are no signs of it anymore ( i honestly dont care about accident, since i am not buying to sell it). Lets see how the deal goes
