if u r looking at going cheap buy a civic. gas mileage will be better and when something breaks it wont cost u a sh*t load.
He did say he wanted something as fast or faster than his Jeep...a Civic is definatly not that, lol

Granted, I would have to say, not many stock cars will feel peppy when put next to a Jeep with the V8 in it...remember that

oops i must have missed the fast part.
o yea and my mom has the v8 grand cherokee and dammmmmmmn it had *****!

And also if anyone is interested in a 1998 5.2L Jeep Grand Cherokee with 100,XXX miles in the chicagoland area i got one for sale...
its gonna be hard to be as fast as the 5.2l jeep.
i guess with the right mods its possible though

bentframe thanks for the link it was excatly what i was looking for.
after spending a couple of hours reading up on all the chips and turbos and whatnot. it seems like the Milltek exhaust is the best one and if i were to get exhaust it would be smart to get the down pipe or test pipe.
Stratmosphere's chip is a little pricey but it does have a lot of gains for 695 for the chip. has anyone else gone through this place? or is one of the other places better? that kinda sucks that if you put the chip in you have to run on 91 octane gas but i guess it is worth it.
i look into turbos and that way to expensive.
Thanks
Ted

You're gonna have to run at least 91 with the 1.8t anyway, so you might as well chip it

you have to keep in mind... 10,000 get's you into an audi... big money keeps the audi on the road once the miles start getting on
i was in the exact same sit'n as you (SUV, lovin the rings, and needing a better car for university drives) albeit... i also couldn't find a decient audi for 10K. pretty much... make sure you have 15K when you're buying the audi for 10K. all in all... i didn't; and have to deal with postponing my audi kickassness. honestly, if you have 15K, look nowhere else, find yourself a B5 A4 1.8TQM... if not.. foci rock

Wait a sec. so what are you trying to say about needing that extra money? do they break alot? or are you saying add ons cost a lot? or what? Cause all i really have is my jeep which i just put on the market and hopefully i'll get 8 or so and i have about 4 grand in the bank but i really only need 2 grand to get me through school. so i have roughly 10 grand to spend. Should i buy a cheaper one?
Thanks
Ted

no, audis aren't crap. but at some point in time... something will break, it's inevitable. when a german breaks... it costs. there's really no way around it, and no one can really dispute the fact. these are expensive cars to maintain. cheapest cars to maintain being domestics... most expensive really is germans.
10K to spend... was what i was looking at (and i'm uber jealous 2K is gonna get you through school... i just wrote a check for 5K). so... in your same situation, i bought a focus, i'm gonna have to wait for the audi. quite honestly, you have to look at the future. if something happens... do you have 2K on hand to fix it? or are you going to have to take out a loan? really... i wouldn't have bought an audi unless i had 5K on hand.

And don't hold your breath on getting what you want for the trade, either. Because of this "Employee Pricing for Everyone" thing, trade values for cars have dropped significantly, even against book. I just traded a 99 Explorer on my A4 that booked (Blue Book Trade) at 8500, and got roughly 5000 for it. (Money difference was 4500 on a 99 A4 Quattro w 82K miles). And in case you think I just suck at negotiations, I went to 7 different stealers over two months and they were all within 500 bucks after negotiations. They will show you the auction books, since they are the most current data on raw vehicle value, and you won't believe how much used car values have dropped. By the way... If the cost of gas (Money in general) is your primary concern, you should probably not do anything at all. Right now, you are going to lose a lot on the trade, and you can buy a lot of gas for $2000.00. (Jeep = 12 MPG, Audi = 24 MPG, $3.00/gal, you would have to drive 16000 mi just to break even, assuming you got top dollar for your trade, and that it needed no repairs or upgrades over that time frame) If, on the other hand, driving pleasure is your chief reward, I LOVE MY AUDI!

Dave
