bentframe - I'm assuming this would be something that could be done in a day while taking my time. I own more then enough tools, but if audi's need something special then I may not have it. However a friend of a friend is a tech for Audi and said he'd be willing to help if I couldn't figured something out. From what I've read on the board tho, you can pretty much use regular tools to get the job done. Well I'll still contunue my search for the audi as I'm not sure the guy with the 96 A4 is willing to go down to 4500 (I wouldn't mind paying more if it didn't need sooo much work).
it's not difficult, just time-consuming. it's just a lot of things to disassemble and reassemble. it takes most people about a day, but i would recommend having a friend around to help you. the installation does call for one special tool, but many people just use two 8mm threaded rods instead

Pssh, I'd move on... there are tonnes of B5's for sale right now... I wouldnt spend 5K on one that was going to need TLC AND maintenance... one or the other, maybe... but rust on the door, interior is shot... and he's 30K late changing the belts... sounds like this is one neglected car -- neglect is not something audi's handle well. Move on.

headshok2002 - Ya I am pretty much going to pass on that car. I found 97 NBM that had the timing belt replaced. But it has more miles and silver painted stripe on the bottom half of the doors [:'(]

I just bought an Audi A4 2.8 Quattro V6 on 5-30-05

The guy was asking $6000.00 the car had 118k miles. I got him down to $5000.00 flat. The car does have minor problems

Sunroof no longer works needs to be repaired
Oilleak (New oilpan or oil gasket)
Driver seat sometimes has issues moving forward.

Other than that car was ok.

Well it took me forever to finally find a audi forum that seems to be active and has some good infomation. But anyways, I am looking to replace my daily driver with a 96-99 Audi A4 2.8 w/ 4WD. I would like to know what price range you guys think the avg 96-97 2.8 A4 goes for with roughly 80-100k miles.

I recently test drove a 96 2.8 A4 and thought it was really nice car to have. This one in particular had 99,000 miles on it and isn't in the greatest condition. The biggest problem is the leather seats, they are totally messed up and would definatly need to be replaced or re-covered. Then the drivers side door must have slammed so may times into a wall when the owner got out that the whole edge has some form of rust (Not enough to see when the door is closed, but still a problem). The sunroof doesn't work, and the carpet needs a really good clean. Other then those things, the car felt like it ran pretty good and had nicks and scratches here and there. The timing belt and water pump have not been replaced either. So the price the guy wants to see the car for $5500. I told him $5000. So do you think this car is worth the 5k or should I keep looking for something that doesn't need this much work for a little bit more? (Which is the reason I asked for a pretty good avg price)

Sorry I wrote a lot, but even after reading a ton of posts I have a good amount of questions. Thanks!
