Default No heat in car

i have a 1996 1.8 20v A4

When im driving my climate control heating in the car is never warm i have ran codes and it came back with nothing. But when i turn off my climate control as in with the fan completly off,. leave it for a few minutes and turn it back on i get great heat from it for about 15/30 seconds before it goes cold again. if i turn the c/control temp down i can get it colder but never hotter than a low low heat that you can harly notice unles you put your fingers in the vents. now this all happens when the car temp is up near or at 90 but when driving the car my temp never gets anywhere near 90 unless im in a traffic jam. usually it would sit around 70. i no matter what i do i dont get any heat at all. the heating pipes(inlet and outlet) in the engine bay are both very hot.

should i run the codes in the climate control when the car is ticking over.??

any help appreciated

Might be the temp flap regulator inside the dash. I don't think it's a diy job either, as it involves ripping everything out.

ok, i worked out how the codes relate to the each part of the system.
it returns no error codes. thats i can tell for the error code list for each code.

how ever i do hear the motor adjusting when i turn the climate control temp up and down.

so could the fault be else where, possibly does it have something to do with the car not rising up to 90 deg .C

well does the coolant temperature get to the center of the indicator? If it does, and the flap is fine, then all I can think of is you have either a bad climate control head or your heater core is plugged.

i changed thermostat and now the temp is running fine flushed the heater core with a pressure washer ans water is running clear.

ran codes again and nothing the heat in the car is a little better but no great heat.

what is strange is when i switch off the climate control for a few seconds and then when i switch it back on i get great heat but only for a about 5/10 seconds and then you can feel the temp. drop the a mid to low heat.

maybe this is all im gonna get from it.

wont know if it will be good enought for the winter though...???

just have to wait and see.

thanks for your help Jestnomen on previous details about this prob.
