Default OBD II - VAG Software

I am looking to get some software so I can check codes and other tests without going to the dealer or Autozone.
I don't have a PC laptop, so Ross-Tech's VAG-COM is not an option. Has anyone seen or heard of:
Shade Tree Software
Auterra Which also does dyno or
OBD Guage (free) just need cables.
All of these work with Palm devices, I have one of them already that I was not using.
Any help would be greatful.

how close is your computer to the garage/car? you can get a pretty long serial port cable. I havn't heard much about the palm ones, I don't think they are nearly as robust as the Ross-tech stuff. You may want to consider just buying an old junker laptop. (~100 bucks)

I am currently living in an apartment on the third floor, so that would be one long cable. I really dont want to buy a PC. I have a Mac laptop, I could use Virtual PC with the VAG-COM. Just not sure how well that will work plus its not supported by Ross-Tech.

For the cable you can get it on Ebay it will run you about 50 bucks... Not a bad deal, but then you have to register the software and thats another 100 bucks well worth it though
