Default Oil in #3 spark plug

While changing spark plugs I noticed oil on #3 spark plug and coil. First thought was piston rings worn ( A4 1.8T with 144K miles) but I've been finding info that is possible seals under head cover could be the problem. Anyone knows about this?

Thanks.

just the valve cover gasket with a pool of oil around the spark plug. Replace the valve cover gasket and while it is off clean the plug #3 hole of as much oil as possible. Clean up the plug and replace and it should stay oil free for a while. Common issue with the 1.8T.

Default cam chain tensioner gasket

Some people suggest that as you replace the valve cover gasket you should also replace the cam chain tensioner gasket. As I read thru the post below I can tell it has been a headeache for some. They suggest while you do cam gasket to take the slack off the chain with a tool after you find TDC so you can get to the gasket but that seems not to be working so good for everyone in the post below.

Any observations on this?

Thanks.

Unless you know you have a bad leak there as well, I would hold off on the cam chain tensioner until you do the next timing belt service and then do the tensioner and gasket all at once. Just depends on your situ.
