I got my oil changed on my new(to me) 1998 a4 2.8 quattro. I put in six quarts of mobile 1, and for some reason the oil only comes up to the "min" level on the dipstick. I do not want to put more than six quarts into the motor, and also do not want to run the motor low on oil. The dipstick appears to be original, but i have never owned or looked at these cars prior to my purchase so i'm not totally positive. Any input on my dilema?

I usually put 6.2 quarts in the 2.8L when i do an oil change. It really doesn't matter what the book says, as long as you are in the center of the min and max line.

 

thanks. i had read elsewhere that the 2.8 only took 5.3 quarts, so i was scared i already had it overfilled and certainly didn't want to overfill it more. Now that i've read an audi tech uses 6.2 it makes alot more sense, that seems about perfect. I will pick up another quart of mobile one tomorrow and add a little bit of it.
