well today while changing the oil the drain plug stripped, really bad, coulndt get it off, took to two different places and they couldnt do anything, and told me the only real thing i could do is replace the whole oil pan, does this sound like BS or can i do something about it.

 

Get some channel locks and take it off.

Make sure you got a replacement on hand.

 

Yep, sounds about right. You can either helicoil (sp?) the pan or replace the whole pan. Those are your only options.

 

well i tried to use achannle lock andvisegrop but that didnt reallt work and the bolt is pretty much over tightened, what would the helicoil tool do.

 

it's not a tool. it's like a spring that fits snugly in the hole and u put a plug in to fill the hole. so it's like a manmade thread so to speak

 

Ahelicoil is used if the threads are stripped out of the pan - you know - the drain plug turns but won't back out.If you stripped the head of the bolt, just weld a shitty socket to the drain plug and TAKE IT OUT. And of course, replace it with a new one.
