Oil Light Every 5,000 miles - is this normal?
About every 5,000 miles or so the oil light comes on. My car is still under CPO and when I asked the guys at the dealership, they said it was normal for this to happen and just to add oil.
Yeah, its normal. That is the service interval indicator. It simply comes on when its time for an oil change, like you said, at 5k miles. Lots of people look at it and think something is wrong, as if the light is indicating a problem, but its just a reminder.

You can change the indicator to go off when ever you want it to with a VAG COM or the dealer can do it. It can be set to go off as early as 1,000 and up to 100,000 intervals but thats just stupid.
Sorry to thread jack but my service oil light is on, it flashes for about 5 min. then goes off on the odometer. Im assuming theres nothing wrong and that the dealer just resets this. Is there a way for me to reset it myself?
You can manually re-set it by pushing and holding the right **** on the cluster, then turn the key on, while still holding the right **** push in the left one and it should say 10,000.
yea look in the manual if you have it, there is some combination of the two buttons on the cluster that will clear either/both the service oil or the other service interval that pops up, i forget what it says exactly.
