Oil pressure problems 2.8l A4!!!
First off, thank you in advance. My 99 a4 2.8l has anIntermittent oil light coming on when it is on the highway. The car has 85,ooo miles on it. Is it common to have an oil pump go at this mileage orcouldthere beanother source of the problem. The car has plenty of oil as well. I poured through the threads and did not see anything of this nature. Secondly, how tough is an oil pump in this car? John .
this is where i have gotten so far. I pulled the pressure sensor and screwed in a pressure gauge. The gauge read 25 psi at idle and 75 psi at 5000 rmp. I am runnning 5-30 synthetic. While i was under the car i noticed both valve cover gaskets are leaking. changed them both and broke the damn tube that connects one valve cover to the other. I can't think for the life of me what it is called other than damn brittle. now i have a pc. of silicone tubing connecting the two valve covers and am off to the "stealership" tonight to get the appropriate connection. I put in a new pressure sender and will see if it was only the sending unit. the car is at 85,000 miles. I did not believe my wife at first that the oil light was coming on but i took the car around a 270 degree exit ramp and it went off on me. If this continues i am going to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the car. I just don't know where i should mount it since the dash is so nice and i don't want it to look terrible. better that than a blown engine. There has always been adiquite oil levels in the car when the light has been coming on. any advice? thanks. JP.
