Default Oil question 2.8

I did my oil change the other day and went from Mobile1 10w30 to Royal Purple 5w30.Before, after sitting for a few hours it would have a little valve tap for about a second then go away. Now it does it after sitting for about 10 minutes and it's louder. Should I go to a thicker oil? The oil temp is also running higher than the previous weight oil. I'm driving to Oregon Friday and will be putting about 1,000 miles on the car.

It's been between 90-100* up here and I drive a steep grade everyday.

I use Aimsoil 5W-40 euroblend and I don't seem to have a problem. I can't think of why it would be a problem to run a 5w-30 because the high weight is still the same. I don' know much to anything about oil's and how there made but I wouldn't think there would be a problem because of it.

You'll be fine, switching weights won't really affect the motor as much as you think, Royal Purple is a much better oil anyway just run it the tapping should go away.

I'm just curious because now with the 5w30 the oil runs hotter (1 bar higher on the gauge) and the rockers clack for a second or 2 after only sitting for about 10-15 minutes where as before it would only do it after sitting for a few hours. I'm thinking the thinner oil is leaving the head faster but there again, I'm not an oil expert.

It goes away after a second or 2. I just hate that sound.

Royal Purple is a true full synthetic so it is gonna be a bit thinner but trust me your not gonna damage your engine with using that oil, now it may leak a little bit more now because synthetic can find its way out of old seals easier than a heavier oil.
