I have the '97 a4 1.8t model and I agree the front cup-holders is horrible designed. So far, I have tested with a variety of drinks and I found the only ones that fit are
1) starbucks iced Grande drink .. the hot drink cup doesn't fit as well
2) normal sized soda can or beer can
3) aquafina bottled water

 

How about the fact that they are as sticky as Monika Lewinskey's dress? You know what I mean right? They don't want to open a lot when you press them?

mine actually arent sticky at all. nothing in the car is. luckily for me the previous owner didn't ever have drinks in the car and neither will i...unless its got a top and for a short distance (drive through)

 

I have a 04 ultrasport with cup holders on the dash (useless), & 2 in my arm rest. I even hate my arm rest holders because with the arm rest down, it makes changing gears difficult. But then I saw a rs4 at Mosport, & was so jealous, because not only was it gorgeous, it had sensible cup holders in the center console. It was the one of the first things I noticed when I looked in the interior. Must be that fast food drive thrus aren't popular in Germany.

 

The only thing I ever bring with me is water bottle or a 20oz Pepsi. Some times the bottle has to be opened first but fits perfect. On the other hand Coke bottles dont fit at all so i jam it in the passenger seat by the center console and seat adjust ****.
