Default Opinions of this A4

You guys and girls seem very knowledgable and very helpful to each other. Here is my problem. I am looking for an inexpensive vehicle to get me through the winter that I can give to my son next summer when he gets his license. This car is an 11 hr bus trip away but a 7 hr drive home. Am I being unrealistic thinking I may be able to get into it for under 2500, and is it worth that much, and will it fill my need? I also asked the seller if there is an indy that will replace timing belt before I pick it up and an est for that. Thanks for any input. the mileage is a little high but service history and receipts are important ( a little mark on the carpet lol ) I had brown marks on mine at that age skids it was calledit looks to be a good bargain but drive it and if your happy then go for it, many cars with high mileage have been rebuilt so as good as new

Turbo is gonna be done after that many miles if it hasn't been replaced already. If not,once you start beating on it it's gonna be toast quick. Simple easy to swap another one but a possible bargaining point. I wouldn't touch it without receipts,or a very thourough check by a mechanic and wouldn't drive 7 hrs for somethin like that. One of the Audis i test drove tracked straight when the steering wheel was released and under braking. It made a weird noise goin over bumps though that wasn't the shocks or struts. Had my friend purposly drive it over potholes while i stayed outside and listened. Isolated it 2 the front. The guy had ramps on the side of his house. I put it up on the ramp,climbed under and saw the cause of the noise. Both axles cracked and a lower control arm with a hairline crack. The guy was claiming it was a bushing and seemed shady to begin with so i left. .02

hey i live in binghamton lol. if you'd like you can set up a meeting with me and the owner and i'll check it out for you man. i got vagcom so if he'll let me scan the car i'll do that too. mileage is a pretty high but i guess if everything has been serviced correctly it would be a pretty fun car. the rattle in the front could be looks pads or bad ball joint bushings.

Get a compression and oil pressure test done.Thatsall that really matters fora $2kish car with that many miles. But, I would not take an 11 hr bus trip for it. Thats just me though. If youve got the time, it could be a fun experience I guess.

Here is my 2 cents:
Milage is very very high, if you want the car for winter might as well buy a ford. The audi you are looking at is a 2 wheel drive, as someone on here mentione if its not quattro its only a VW. Who ever is selling that car drove 22500 approx. per year. That is huge in my opinion!!! You can probably get that car for under $2000 easy. I would stay Away from it you will end up putting more money into it than what you paid. If the guy doesent have the tack record and what has been done to the car... I would stay away from it... You might need new shocks, new turbo, timing belt, possibly an alternator, new battery, new coil packs,,,... but you can tell these things upon inspection!!!

Check these out;

http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/car/495236300.html
http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/car/495002325.htmlthese you can negotiate if you are paying cash very easily and get fixed locally where the car is but atleast they are being honest and not hiding things like the other guy saying ohh noise coming from the front on bumps, he knows what it is 100%!

You can get a VW with AWD. Its called 4 motion and is the same mother ******* thing as quattro. An Audi without AWD is not the gayest thing in the world, and I would never recomend getting a ford over and Audi without awd.. There are many other Audi's out there with many less miles that still may need things like timing belt/alternator/turbo/shocks, etc. The only thing that matters at this point (200K+ miles) is the compression and oil pressure. At that mileage, there should be several things that have been replaced such as the turbo/alternator/etc. It could turn out to be a great deal as long as the engine keeps compression and has good oil pressure.

If there is front end noise, its likely a tie rod end or control arm issue.

Holly CALM the **** down, I am expressing my opinion and my experiance with cars. I also mentioned that he should ask for the track record of the car. Its a free world man you got yours i got mine, no reason to get mad. So you are saying the resto of those awd cars are as good as an audi quattro???? You need a Hug man, obviously not enough love in your life so you take out the frustration on the finger tips.

I appologize for my outrage and inappropriatecomments.
