Outside temperature reading erratic

Anyone know why my 2000 A4 outside temperature reading is changing too often and sometimes drops 20 degrees and slowly makes it way back up? This started about a week ago.

that seems to be the same for my 2000 A4 as well. maybe it's just because the sensor is close to the heat therefore,
it's not very accurate?

Mine always seems about 4-5 degrees too high as well. I assume the sensor is in an area that gets ambient heat from the engine as well.

The temp sensor is located on the front of the radiator. Sounds like it's going bad.
