Overheating :(
the temperature goes up very slow, as i drive the car it increases, goes to half in about 5 minutes and stays there for awhile, then it goes up another bar and it stays there and drops down after i let it in nuetral and leave it there waiting for the stop light.
so then today, i bought a thermostat for 7$ at autozone, i brought it back home, changed it, drained the coolant / water, put everything back together, went to get 50/50 coolant for about 13$ at autozone, filled it up, turned the heater on, started the car, and drove for awhile, it was fine for awhile, then this time it reach HOT again. i really don't know whats wrong with it, it's making me sad in a bad way since i have to drive 200 miles to see my girlfriend in 8 days for her birthday, i have OCD so i when something is wrong i have to fix it no matter how long it takes, its driving me insane. the only thing i can think of is installing a new water pump, is this hard? so how do i do this? i fill it with coolant and leave the cap off? then i turn the car on and leave it there for 10 minutes? or do i just rev it in nuetral for 10 minutes. how do i know when this "air bubble" purges out of the system. how does air bubbles get into the system anyways?
well today after doing everything, the temp went to HOT in about 5-10 minutes, i stopped the car, and i was about to turn the cap off, then it went all crazy so i twisted it back on and thats the end of today .. i left it at a friends house but it sucks. yikes..
the water boils.. i don't know if i have a cracked head or what .. its driving my CRAZY
help please.
thank you to all that responded.

okay im taking my car in to get it checked up on for 30$ there gonna check for leaks, check the head, and see why its overheating.
if its the water pump, its going to cost about 570 dollars. is that normal? plus the 30$ goes into the 570 dollars if i decide to do it with them.
how much is a water pump installed? i head you have to take off the whole front.

eh .. i really hope its just the water pump
im like going insane right now ..
i really hope i didn't crack my head. i left it at a shop and they are doing testing, he said he would call me tomorrow and tell me whats wrong with it.
i really hope my head isn't cracked ... or thats gonna cost alot.
i found a local shop here that would do the waterpump for 570.
i found another shop which i have my car at right now that im sure is gonna do it for a lower cost and charge me 50$ to change the timing belt.
I HOPE its just the water pump...
im going insane, i wish someone could tell me that its not my head and there sure of it. =/

well the timing belt service is not just the timing belt itself. it's timing belt, water pump, thermostat, crank pulley, tensioner pulley. i mean if he's gonna be in there doing the thermostat or water pump, y not do the other parts too. then u won't have to wry bout it too. plus the 1.8t are known for snapping the timing belt and if that happens, u won't be very happy with urself.
well, it was the water pump that went out, ahahhaa. thanks for all the help everyone, the mechanic just called and said everything was fixed ever since the water pump was changed.
thank you all again.
