Default performance/ quiet exhaust?

i am a recent purchaser of a 1999 a4 1.8t quattro and i was wondering if anyonecould reccomendany inexpensive performace upgrades. also, i want to put an exhaust system on, but i want to keep it classy and i do not want the loud exhaust typically found on a honda civic...any suggestions?

A chip is your best bang for the buck on the 1.8T, APR, GIAC, and REVO are the main dealiers for your car. As for the exhaust, Its probably gonna cost more that its worth as far as performace goes but Again compainies like APR and Magnaflow, Remus, and Milltech, make good exhausts for that car.

Hey Brendan. Flyboy recommended some good upgrades for the a4. Mainly the chip will give the best performance boost, but if you do that you may want to change the diverter valve as well. Throw a K&N filter or high flow filter into the stock intake box as well.

As for exhausts, a quiet good performing i would suggest would be a techtonics. I have it and its a little louder than stock. I had the same goal and im really pleased with mine.

aslong as you have a cat, mid-muffler/resinator and a muffler you should be pretty quit with an 2.5" exhaust.

You didn't say how many miles are on your car. Make sure that all the preventive maintance has been done before you start doing anything or it might be for not. Timing belt water pump, ect, ect.

Borla or Milltek.. When I put on my Borla exhaust with its resonators still in tact.. I could hardly tell the difference.

I got it for sound of course, so the I instantly removed a resonator

And go with, APR, GIAC, REVO as stated above... then get a Diverter Valve $35-180.. will work

Yep, a k&N drop in panel filter or similar for the airbox, is the best way to go on these.
No need for a cone filter until you have a much bigger turbo.

Thats probably the cheapest "mod" you're gonna get. inexpensive performace upgrades as you put it, these words do not belong in the same sentence. Most of the performance gains are gonna cost you $$$$$

My diode cost me all of about $0.25 and i had the mbc and just bought a new gauge which is a neccessity anyways. I say that was a nice perforance gain.
