My A4 Avant 'shifts' a second time in second gear when it gets to 2400 RPMs. Its as if the torque converter (its a tiptronic) releases and then grabs again as the car accelerates in second. after the rpms drop a about 300 rpms they climb again and the car runs fine.
It only does it in second gear. and it does it if in full auto mode or in tip mode.
Dealer can find no codes, so they are clueless.
Anyone have a suggestion as to the cause and a cure?
TIA

RE: phantom shift
Myself and others experience the same thing. Good question. Most people just describe it as a 200-300 dip/drop in rpm's shortly after shifting to 2nd. All I know for sure is that its definately a mechanical thing and is not TCU/software related. Have you ever changed your fluid/filter?

RE: phantom shift
My A4 has only about 42K on the odometer so I doubt that filter is the issue. And if it were, why would the RPM drop only occur in 2nd gear? I do indeed suspect a software issue is the root cause.
