Default Poor Design of Center Armrest?

2005.5 2.0 A4
does anyone else think the center armrest was poorly designed? i know i could leave it in an up position, but it defeats the purpose of an armrest if i drive around w/ it sitting up. when its down it almost makes it impossible to use the cupholders. has anyone made changes to this?

i hate the arm rest it gets in the way of the hand brakes also
and those stupid cup holders are useless
so useless i just removed them so i can have more room for storage in the arm rest

the b5 armrest is a piece of ****. Honestly, it was my cars sole source of creaks and rattles for the longest time... now my stereo has created a couple more. [:@]

and yes, it does interfere with the handbrake... very, very annoying.

For those of you whose arm rest is stuck straight up, have you pressed the latch release below the release that released the lid?

The arm rest in my b5 is always down but the cupholders are absolutely useless. And I hate the cupholder in the dash, too. I wish they made better cupholders

My buddy always gets in my car and puts the armrest down... I proceed to smack him in the face and put it back up.

For me, it makes it harder to shift, and pull the handbrake up. The cupholders also cant be used if its down.

Yeah the armrest can kind of get in the way of the cupholders at time. It's not really a problem on the front one, but the rear one is kinda pointless. You have to lift the armrest up to get to it. It's still leaps and bounds better than the B5 flip out cupholders so I really can't complain toooo much.
