ORIGINAL: aRIf

is a B5 can run without original key ? is there a password or somehitng on our keys ? is yes, car will crank but will not start without the key in ignition.
Already got that figured out. Yes, there is a passive transponder in the keys of any newer Audi (not sure the start year), and the easiest way I know of is to get a key copy made (WITHOUT THE BUILT IN FOB, JUST A PLAIN OLD KEY) and use it inside of a transponder interface module. It's pretty much the standard for doing a remote start on any car with a chipped key; Dodge has been doing it since like 97-98, new GMs have it, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity...pretty much all manufacterers use that system now. Any successful alarm maker has a bypass module.

I thought about trying to to just add the key to a aftermarket LCD 2 way remote that had remote start and whatnot on it. (this was before I had my audi). Seemed like a cool idea, I would like to know when my alarm gets set off, because it's so quiet now that I can't hear it while on the other side of the door at Big5. And the doors open!

Ok, I know for sure I can do it now, I learned a fun trick about Directed remote starts today

However, I can't figure out for the life of me how to remove the steering shroud...there are 2 phillips on the bottom, along with a hex, and then two torx to remove the adjustment lever...but there are two phillips head screws on the front of the column that I can't get because the steering wheel is in the way. I spent like an hour in my spare time at work today screwing with it and no progress! Once I can remove that, I can grab all my ignition wires and place the ring around the ignition cylinder (for the transponder bypass)...but for the moment I'm stuck. Any ideas how to get the bottom half of the steering column shroud off??

Ive heard of a few remote start sytems that would actually activate with the oem fob. For most of them you would have to press a button like the panic or even the door lock/unlock buttons several times to activate it. Im not 100% sure on the makes/models but Murph at sounddomain security forums will defnitely be able to help you if not push you in the right direction.

Heh, I'm used to that on not-german-cars, but I'm just playing it safe...so what do those screws go to if they don't hold the piece on, and which direction should I "yank" it in?

I actually asked a shop about this and he wanted to see my key, I didn't have it on me then but he said something about the key having a chip in it. I'm assuming if it does you are able to. I will take my key to him thought. I'll let you guys know..

There is one that i know of, I was talking to bobby at DTC Designs about it this weekend. The remote start manufacturer (not sure who) are in the process of releasing a new/updated version but it's doable. I'll try and get the make/model info etc from him this week.
