Default Power Locks

Hey Guys, n00b here. I hope to gather plenty of info to make my A4 look as good as the ones on this board.

My first question is about my power locks. The vacuum pump for the locks went out and the dealer said that a replacement pump was around $500. I pulled the pump out and it does in fact not work. I refuse to pay that asking price for a new one. Is there any alternative to vacuum pumps that some of you guys have used? I was thinking about going with a universal power lock kit such as Spall or Autolock. These kits are around $150.

Any help or info that you can give me will be greatly appreciated. TIA

For reference my A4 is a 99.5 1.8T.

stick with the vacuum pump, just get one from a wrecking yard or an aftermarket parts supplier..check the "audi links" sticky at the top of this forum for a list of suppliers...there's also www.car-part.com which is a list of wrecking yards and their inventories..it will be much easier to find one if you get the part number from your local dealership first.

you can get a OEM pump from www.shokan.com for 150, also not when you change this pump your keys will need to be reprogramed for keyless entry
