Pre-Buy Questions Newbie Q;s
Hey guys, I'm new to Audi. I'm about to purchuse a used 1996 A4.... and I just wanted to asked some questions before I bought it.
1, The motor on the car has 100,000 miles on the car. I was wondering when these Audi motors usually give up. The car seems like it has been taken care of regularly. But I was just wondering how many more miles could be squeezed out of the puppy.
2, Are there any trouble spots that I should be aware of??? engine, motor, tranny....etc. So far I know that I should keep a close eye on the timing belt and I should inspect the front arm for wear.
3, What kind of milage do you get out of these cars. I know the specs say about 21/30 but we all know that those figures are a little fudged. Also are there ways to improve the milage on it. I plan to Seafoam the engine, clean the MAFS, and maybe change the O2 sensor, is there anything else I should do.
4, Body Rust, I live in the New England, and I was wondering if there are any particular spots where rust is likely to form???
5, If you have any useful pieces of advice, please share.
Thanks in Advance for the taking the time to answer my newb Q's/

96 12v V6's (if thats what you are getting) are very reliable . Should last a long time with proper maintenance.
timingbelt, and control arms... maybe wheel bearings..
seems you have everything covered.
See if you can get service records from the person.

what the hell is up with the everyday questions about "how long the engine will last?" ?????!?!?!!??! An engines life is only as good as how well the previous owners took care of it and how strict of a maintenance schedule it was on. This goes for all engines. Audi engines dont have an expiration date or will necessarily day at X miles. Its all about the maintenance. Getting service records is a good indicator on what type of life the engine has been through, especially oil change records.
