Default Newbie Questions

So I have had my 02 s4 for almost 4 months now and love it! I have just under 50K on it and have recently done some preventative maintanance; DV's, silicone TBB, new breather hose, snub mount and also got the multi program APR. Here are my questions...

1. What are healthy k03's supposed to sound like, how much noise or whistle is normal? I was hesitant to post this question cause figured it was asked a million times, but didn't find any real answers.

2. In WA state, premium gas is 92 octane. So have just been running the 91 octane program. Is it possible to add an octane booster to gain an extra point and run the 93 program?

Sorry if these are extreme newbie questions, just want to learn as much as possible about my car!

Thanks Everyone!!!

adding one octane booster will not get you to 93 oct. and you don't wanna run that **** anyways, it turns your spark plugs orange. As for the turbos, you should hear them spooling up.

Good to know about the octane booster, how come they turn the plugs orange? Some of the brands claim some pretty outrageous results. Glad I posted my question before I tried anything on my own. Guess I may have to drive to the track to get some better gas and use the other programs.

Thanks

the turbos are normally quiet tho unless you have your windows down, then you can hear it from the outside pretty well in the -10 to 0 vacuum then when you get into the boost side for me at least it gets to high pitched to hear with the wind noise. i wish i could make them louder without gutting my exhaust. with only 50k on the clock i dont think you should have to worry about them going as long as you and the po stayed current with your oil changes.

After changing out my intake to an open element with a heat shield I can hear them alot more. Before I could tell for a second that they were spooling but then nothing.

Thanks bottlecap. I think I hear what you are describing, dont have a boost gauge to know for sure, but just started hearing noise at low rpms with windows down now that have had a couple days of descent weather. Then it goes away or cant hear it at higher rpms and with the wind noise. I may be a little too paranoid, just want to be sure. Dont know about the PO except there was only one and they didn't drive much in the 7 years they had it. But I am for sure keeping up with oil changes, just had one this month.

What would you say a boost leak sounds like? Just so I know for future reference.

most you cant hear with the engine on unless they're big and you'd hear excess wooshing when you rev the engine. best way to know is to check using a boost leak detector

Is that something a novice can do? Or do I have to take it in?
