this morning as i was leaving to school, I started to notice that it was kinda spasmodic. I would pull/push the lever and the signal would be faster than usual and than just turn off by itself after a couple of clicks. And than as i was leaving school at the end of the day....I checked how it was and the signal would turn on and then quickly turn off after one click. I thought it might be the bulbs since the signal was faster but the hazards worked fine and all the bulbs were bright as they could be. The only other possibility is the relay switch.....from what i know the turn signal relay and the hazard relay switch are a combination....they both are the same switch that's behind the hazard button, but what im wondering is....if the turn signal relay has gone bad, shouldn't the hazards not work as well?

Check your turn signal fluid.

no the hazards may work fine. The hazard switdch (relay) is a common problem in vw/audi. Not an exspensive fix either and it does sound like that relay has gone bad. But test that first if not look towards your actual switch. I had one go bad and every time the customer would hit the turnsignals her light would go out.

Doesn't matter, there is more than one relay inside that switch that can go bad. Each function has it's own relay.

I wrote a step by step procedure on how to replace the relay in the DIY section. Check it out.

I have a 1999 A4 (1.8T) Wagon. I've just started having the same problem - Turn signals almost never working. I called my local Audi Parts department. They said the Hazard Flasher Switch probably needs to be changed. I then checked the Hazard Flasher and that does not work. My bulbs must be fine, because the turn signal works at times. Have you had any luck with your car?

This thread is a year old man. Dont expect a response to your question from the original poster. Replace your relay behind the flasher button.
