Default the problems just keep piling on

So about two weeks ago I came back to town and started fixing up my 97 a4 to get it up to shape for the schoolyear. I changed my brakes, the 2 rear abs sensors to hopefully fix the abs problem and I spent about a week of full time work changing my heatercore since I had no heat last winter. A word of advice, if you're a beginner like me and you're thinking of doing the heater core yourself don't bother unless you have about a week to throw down the drain in blood sweat and tears. So anyway, while I did that, I repainted the interior pieces to give them a fresh coat of black and then this week I paid about 600$ to get some oil leaks taken care of. So finally I thought I got pretty much everything fixed since the only problem left was the ABS problems which my mechanic said was due to the front left abs sensor not the 2 rear that I changed so I was in an overall good mood. Then tuesday night I'm driving downtown and I park the car and it won't let me pull the key out. I fiddle with it for a while and finally get it out and since I've never seen anything like that before I try to put it back in and start the car but the car wont start. I forgot to mention that 2 weeks ago before the heater core jobI did I took the car to the dealership to get the A/C purged and for them to do an ignition switch recall. So I now had to get my car towed to the mechanic and it was the first time I've been glad I baught a FWD since towing was only 65$ as opposed to 150 for a quattro. Today I'm talking to my mechanic and he's saying it's most likely due to the ignition switch (or maybe some other switch around there) so I call the dealership and theyre saying I should tow the car to them and if they find it to be a problem with the ignition switch they'll pay for everything otherwise I'm paying for everything. I clearly told them to forget about it and I'll just have my mechanic fix what needs to be done since I know 100% if i took it to the stealer they would lie to me in my face and tell me it wasn't the ignition switch even if it was so there's no point in me going through that. So I'm waiting to see how much this "free" recall is going to cost me in the end.

There is a recall on the ignition switch for your yr. But you might end up paying more for the tow than for the part and to have your mechanic do it.
