Default Proper Launch??

So I'm pretty new to the 1.8 but familure with quattro drive. My last Audi was a 99 2.8 trip - so having a manual is a tad differnt upon launch. Here's how it works - I am at a dead stop and rev to 2k and drop the clutch I jump off the line and hear a strange, binding like, noise off the right front quarter - I let off the gas and it goes away...now Im not sure if Im launching wrong or if there is something wrong?!? I also tried with the ESP off - same thing?! WTF? So - whats the proper way to jump off the line and what is that noise?!?!

lol, that noise isnt good

first of all i wouldent drop the cluch, you cant spin the wheels on stock cluch or on stock power with quattro, with that said...

with the 1.8t the power band is between 2800 and 4200, so i'd launch it at around 3500, then let it drop to 2800 when it first gets fully engauge.

a boost gauge really helps to let you know how your launch is, the trick is to get the turbo spooled during the slip period of the cluch, and as soon as your accelerator hits the floor your cluch food should have just come off the pedal.

most of all, dont try and launch the quattro on the stock cluch, your just gonna fry it, but a slight cluch upgrade, 500 buks will make it so you can launch all day, search that **** man

If you are bogging, it means that you are either engaging too soon, or don't have enough revs. If you are slipping, it means your clutch (pressure plate) does not have enough clamp load to grab the disc, and you are revving too high. We almost never tell people to just "dump/drop" the clutch, nor slip it either...but rather.. a combination of both.

There are many different methods of launching your car, but a common and good method is to blip your throttle (where the tach needle jumps up and down)... then during the 'upswing' of your tach (when engine is in the accelerating phase), slightly engage the clutch where you feel like it's about to grab. At the same time, make sure your still on the upswing cycle...if you're beginning to decelerate...start over. Once you feel like it's about to grab, THEN you dump the clutch, and car should just rocket itself out of the box. It takes practice and even wear on the clutch before you get it right. But this method will put the least amount of stress on your drive train.... "Blip-Slip-and-Dump". People who typically like to rev and hold their RPM's, and then try to dump the clutch will find themselves bogging and lose inertia too fast...and killing their launch, drivetrain, including clutch.
