I wish my A4 were rear wheel drive, drifting is fun!!!
U cna drift a AWD car u just have to know how. If u pull it hard enough without being on the gas it will drift. Quattro only works when ur on the gas. You can also pull the parking brake. Watch the clip below. The guy from top gear tells u how to oversteer (basically drift) a awd car.

Well the weight is still there however your turning two less tires so you would have a little more power. I would think there would be a problem with the electronics that control the quattro. It's designed to deliever the exact amount of power each wheel needs depending on traction. So if two wheels are disconected it seems like it'd mess something up. Maybe it would just send all the power to the rear wheels though thinking the front two were slipping. I want Jest to tell us what he thinks. I wish my A4 were rear wheel drive, drifting is fun!!!
Quattro is all mechanical. ESP and sh*t maybe... but quattro -- all mechanical... I think subaru's are electronic, they detect wheel slippage, and power is sent to the slipping wheel... but quattro just keeps all 4 wheels spinning the same speed.

Am I wrong?

I agree that RWD is more fun... but with enough power, I'm sure AWD would be killer... spinning 4 tires can let you do crazy things. I only know from experience in the snow... having that all year round would be too much fun :P

lol.

I was "drifting" it today. It's wet so it's easy. Putting it sideways is always fun.

i managed to drift in the rain too. quattro doesn't help with your foot off the gas in a hard turn. i was having a good time sliding through intersections, then hitting the gas to whip out of it .

RWD would make little sense.

its not that bad when u have quattro. When u want out u step on the gas a quattro will regain the control for u. I hated this crap in my mustang b/c it wasnt so easy to get out of them

just a quick clarifacation, an engine makes the same amont of hp no matter what wheels are spinning, itd be pretty pointless to me, unless the thing you were tryin to do with your car could only be done with rwd, like drifting, this month, there was a subau sti enered into D1 (a strictly rwd class of professional drift in japan, and sprouting rooots in America). that is the only reason that i could see anybody converting a awd to rwd. and to tell you the truth, audi's chassis setup is not the most hardcore canyon setup in the world, so tryin to drift an audi would be the equivilant of trying to drift a ford crown royale, it just is not the right setup...

turbo charged 3.0L, damn thats something i wanna see. rwd would be better then awd, depends on the situation. off the line, awd would obviously pull. but like rwd has less power loss, due to the obvious, 2 wheels oposed to 4. dont understand why someone would butcher their awd tho, if u wanted rwd, liek stated, get a bmw. audis are famous for the quattro
