I thought it was a 60/40 power split between front and rear. I might be thinking the brake balance though. Can't remember.

Josh

I think teh 60/40 split is on the newer cars to give more of that rear-wheel drive feel.
They have always been 2:1 rear/front with the exception of the R8

is there any way to change the ratio? cause ive hear that on the newer subies and evos you can change the ratio up to 80:20 i think in either direction. and is there any audi with a RWD only platform that could possibly be a donor car to make a full time RWD a4?

Yeah, you can buy a new center diff from STaSIS that changes it from 1:2 front/rear to 1:4 front/rear.

quattro is full time 4wd, power is always suplied to the wheel unlike subies and evos which are electronic 4w, where when the front wheel slips the back ones get power. also (not sure in the later models) b5 is a 40 front 60 rear torque split. and if you want to change the ratio you have to buy a new diff. the reason you can change it with a button in a subie is because its electronic where audi is pure mechanical

the B5 and B6 were 50/50 split. all four wheelwillspin. the new B7+ will get a more aggressive 60/40 split to make the car a little more balanced since audis still have the engine over the froint wheels which causes understeer. with the more aggressive 60/40 its a bit neutral.

thats good to know. so if i were to get a new diff in the car to change the ratio is this something i could find online(like parts/how too) or is this a one off, magazine quality job. cause thats pretty much what im not looking for right now, just a regular old order parts and swap them out type deal.

60/40 split btw inless called for then it can do 80/20 eaither way. Never S4 and up I hear can for 100% to rear or front. That might also just be the rumor mill but its not very complacated. Wiki is a good starting point then you'll have to do some comparo on the pratices of AWD. Its interesting when you learn about the wurm gearing you should be able to change a few differnt things to acomplish what your looking for at a relly cheep price "Just Risky". I saw one thing thou why mess with perfection?
