question involving possible 2.8t?
coming form BMW, i dont know a great deal about the audi engine lineup. But i was wondering if the 2.7t uses the same basic engine as the 2.8 na engine. If so, with some internal modifications and a new manifold to turbo, could a 2.8 become a reliable 2.8t like the 2.7t? maybe this is completely not possible, it was just a random idea i thought of. most likely it would be more work than is worth it...
no one has ever turboed a 2.8 and theres not point for it, its not made for boost and ur just throwing money away if u plan to strengthen the engine, you can supercharge it
if u want a twin turbo v6 just sell ur 2.8 and pay more and get a b5 S4

Mate the 2.8 is a 'pedestrian' of and engine and if u are interested is going that far mite as well trassh the 2.8 and put in the 2.7T?
The 2.7T has heaps better construction such as having forged pistons and will take up 25 PSI of boost
The 2.7T is similar is size minus turbos + plumbing to the 2.8, but if u are thinking its going to be cheap like mucking round with Toyota and Nissan engines, i will tell u now it wont be

Turboing a 2.8 is a bad idea the compression on the engine is to high. The reason you always see the turbo engine being the one with the smaller displacment is because they do it to drop the compression ratio. Turboing your 2.8 and running to much boost will blow the engine. you probably could run the turbo minimum of 6.5psi for a while but it will be hell on your engine
+1 That why they lowered the displacement in the 2.7T setup. Someone HAS turboed a 2.8 motor but it was a VW not an audi. I wish I could find the link again. Adding a turbo to a 2.8 motor is certainly not impossible but for all the money and labour involved it would be better to just get an S4 with the 2.7T motor. So no its not worth it.
