Question regarding an A4 that i might buy.
Hello this is my first post here so go easy on me..
I have a question about a 2001 A4 1.8T quatro that i looked at today. I have herd somewhere, i believe it was on these forums.. that the 1.8T's have problems with their timing belts(sp?) ? Today at the dealership i made the guy open the hood up and then started the car.. there was a kinda screeching sound (not even screetching, i cant explain it) and it seemed as though it was coming from the belt area. So do you think its the belt? The car has only 30K miles on it. Originally it was for $19950 when i went in and then i bargained and got it down to $16K! I got the history report on it and its all clear! Thats a good deal right? The car is all black with black interior and the windows are kinda tinted. It looks awesome! No dents or scratches and on the inside its perfectly preserved! it has never been in an accident and the previous owner leased it so it got a check up and got fixed about every 5k miles.
oh btw, is there any other problems or things/parts to look at before i buy this? what are the common problems at 30k miles?
Thanks for all the help in advance![sm=thanx.gif]

Shouldn't have any problems at 30K. Car should still be under warranty. Have it checked by an independent mechanic. Common problems are front control arms, wheel bearings. Change oil with synthetic every 5K (not 10K). Change timing belt at latest 80K. 2001 has the updated tensioner which was what usually failed rather than the timing belt.

The car is still under waranty for 9 more months or 20K miles. If i do bring a mechanic does it have to be an Audi certified one or just any?
thanks.

If it's still under waranty then don't worry about it! You might be able to have them extend the waranty, which would be a really good idea if you are not goign to mod the car. Audi dealerships tend to not want to fix anything they don't have to and will deny any problems. You might want to take it to an independant euro mechanic to look over the car, then take it to the dealer and point out all the problems. I'm pretty sure you cant have an independant mechanic fix it though, well you can but it will be out of your pocket.
