On a 2001 there is a column of buttons on the right side of the head unit. There are 4 verticle, with the key on, SAFE should appear. Press the middle 2. Use the station selecting buttons 1-4 to enter the code. Press the middle 2 buttons in the verticle stack. You'll get 3 chances to do it right. You'll have to wait to try again.

i had the same problem with my 2.8 Q cause i enpluuged the battery. So when you turn it on it should say SAFE. All you have to do is hold down the Dx and FM1/2 bttons until 1000 appears, then release. Enter your code next using the numbers 1-6. If you press one twice it goes to the #2 so use only use the #'s 1-4 buttons to enter your code. Once you enter the code, hold down the Dx and FM1/2 buttons again until SAFE appears again. Then turn the radio off and then back on and it should work!!

hope that helps!!
