Radio Code...Safe mode
Hello, all... I have recently purchased a 1996 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro. I'm a new Audi owner, and I'm pretty excited.
The problem? The "delta" radio is in safe mode, and I do not have the factory owners manual, the radio manual, or any kind of card with the code on it. I have no way of reaching the original owner, so that's not an option.
I know this has been discussed before. I did some research by searching previous posts and found some good info. I learned how to input the correct code (once I figure out what it is), and how to get the radio out of "Safe II" mode. What I can't find is exactly how to decipher the correct code from the label in the spare tire area of the trunk.
I noticed in a prior post that someone mentioned looking for a 4 digit numbered sequence following the letters "AUZ" I have no such letter/number sequence. I already tried entereing the only two 4 digit numbered sequences on that sticker and it appears that neither one worked. Can anybody tell me exactly what to look for on that sticker?
I hate to take it to the local dealer for this. They charge a full hour of labor (at $75) just to retreive the code. Simply disgusting.
I appreciate any input. Thanks much!

Take it to the dealer they may be able to look at your vin or remove the radio but there should be an universal over ride code (i think i dont really know) anyways keep me posted and ill try to help as much as possible
I wish I could tell you more, but it seems as though you have gone about it correctly.... except for one thing.
If you attempt to use a code, and it is unsuccessful, the radio will lock down for (I think) one hour before it will allow any other attempt - this is a further safety feature even if you have the correct code. Therefore, you may have to wait an hour if one of the codes does not work.
Be sure that you are completely familiar with the procedure before you attempt the steps.
